Tuesday, April 16th at 2pm, the Colorado Senate Finance committee will hold a hearing on SB 33. The proposed bill would raise property taxes on certain short-term rental hosts, by classifying their homes as commercial instead of residential.
Additionally, there are draft amendments we expect to be discussed tomorrow including the following: codifying short-term rentals as a property type that local governments could further tax in the coming years and/or the State of Colorado would spend $250,000 to complete a study on short-term rentals across the state.Â
In order to speak at the meeting, you’ll need to register with the committee using this link. In-person testimony is the most impactful option. The Committee Name is "Senate Finance", the Date is "4/16/24 at 2pm" and the Hearing Item is "Senate Finance SB24-033 (Lodging Property Tax Treatment)." If you have trouble signing up to testify or submit written testimony, you can call 303.866.3521.
Attending this hearing is the best opportunity to make sure the legislators know how important hosting is to you and how economically harmful this proposal would be to residents and communities across the State.
